The crime: The media flogging and imprisonment of the British couple who allegedly had 'sex on the beach' in Dubai, was a frightening example of how dangerous it is to disregard foreign law. According to the Foreign Office, one in seven men admitted to having had sex in a public place on holiday.
Where not to ‘do it': UAE, Turkey and North and East Africa take the crime very seriously.
Why? It’s highly offensive to have sex in public in Muslim countries. Plus, it’s illegal worldwide. Yes, that includes Britain.
Penalties: Imprisonment for up to three years, a big fine and sometimes corporal punishment.
